Collaboration
Having worked with a variety of students with special needs, this area is very near and dear to my heart. I have since developed many presentations and experiences to help prepare preservice music teachers and inservice teachers to meet the needs of a very dynamic and diverse group of students.

Music Education for Children with Special Needs
Pictured: A  high school student signs the program notes I read at a spring concert.
As a K-12 teacher, I worked with many colleagues to present content for the students. As a researcher, I have completed several reserach projects with speech-language pathologists and have close ties to Penn State's Communication Sciences and Disorders Deparment.

Choral Music
Many of the students I worked with with special needs as a K-12 teacher had speech and language impairments. I watched their verbal skills grow over the years I worked with them. I started graduate school with the intent of better understanding how music skills and langauge skills are related. I have since completed several reserach projects in this area.

Music & Langauge Development
As a K-12 teacher, I taught elementary, middle, and high school chorus. The middle school choirs consistently recieved excellent rating at state festivals and we had a very high accpetance to the honors choir as well. In higher ed, I have assisted with Penn State's " University Choir " and " Essence of Joy ," as well as the Nittany Valley Children's Choir for a short time. I also sang as part of the community choir "Orphues Singers."
